Gargoyles and cresties.

Before I ask let me just say I have no intention of doing this it is strictly a question based off of my curiosity.
Ok now to the question at hand.
Is it possible to breed a crested and gargoyle gecko successfully. I was just thinking about how similar they are and the thought just crossed my mind. Also if it has been done does anyone have any pics?

I would guess that it can be done. I know they've bred Cresties with other rhacs- I think it was Mossy geckos but not sure on that.

Thanks like I said I am not really interested in trying it but am still curious maybe someone else has heard of it or seen it done before.

I do believe it's been done before but it's very looked down upon by many keepers of rhacs

It has been done, as have chahoua/crestie, and I believe chahoua/gargs.

I believe that the garg/crestie pairings have resulted in high birth defects (like missing legs and such). Crestie/chahoua pairings are more popular I think - there are mixed reports on the similarities of their sexes.

At the end of the day many of the serious rhac keepers will freak on you for even mentioning this. Just an FYI.

A bit late for my reply lol. Thanks guys and as for the whole hybrid thing being a big no no, believe me I know. I have been in many discussions with members on here and friends on the topic of hybrids. I was just curious if it had been done.

I think some of you are substituting chahouas for saras. I know that's been done several times, unless the chahouaxcrestie is a newly found fertile cross. Which would be unfortunate. I was under the impression that the only functional (as in viable) cross was sara x cilatus.

The sarasinorum cross is popular because morphologically they're quite similar, saras just have no 'crests'.

Nope, no mistake subbing in chewie for sara. There are people who are actively making crestieXchewie hybrids with quite a bit of success. And I believe that their offspring have proven to be fertile which raises even more issues for other people.

I personally am not staunchly against hybrids, whether it be geckos, snakes, whatever. But I think there are certain criteria and responsibilities that should be adhered to in these cases.
