No I have just two sheets of 1/2inch Plexiglas over the top of my tank. One for each side. On the side with my CHE I have a hole cut in the center of the sheet and screen over the hole. So the opening is covered completely but the heat is still making its way into the tank.
The snake will continue to escape from that because the plexi is very flexible. You need to put a mesh lid on then put the plexi over the top of the mesh. This way you can SECURELY keep your snake.
This is 1/2 thick plexiglas, its soild. You can't bend or flex the sheet. She got out because I didn't have any weight on it and she could just lift it up.

I would permanently glue one half down and hinge it in the middle that was you only need one latch on the end.
Glad you found your snake! I had a boa escape(about 10 yrs ago) and was found in the dryer. I had to take the dryer apart to get her out. I'm glad we didn't use the dryer with her in it. She was sitting on the drum where the belt would have injured her or worse!
About half of my co-workers have been laid off. I've been making 25 to 40 hr checks for the past three months. In previous years I never saw a week without at least 10 hrs overtime. Out of unoffensive words on that subject!
