I hate to do it, but

I love my kids too much not too.

So I took Memphis out of his tank to handle him for a few, before doing a full clean out and substrate replacement tonight. He had just started to relax his body and sniff around a bit. He got within inches of my face so I moved my left hand, which was holding him 6 inches back from his head, farther away from my face. He struck instantly on the back of my wrist. I stayed calm and was okay until he wrapped my right hand so tight that it was pulling his head away from my left hand, which of course was tearing on my left wrist.

So my wife who hates snakes, but was willing to let me and my teen daughter have one, had to pry his body off my right hand and then I had to pry his mouth off of my left.

Long story short, the wife wants him gone. She is afraid that the teenager will become afraid if she see's the bite on my hand. She is also now afraid of an escape. With an 18 month old and a 5 month old, I can't fault her. After feeling Memphis's strength she is even afraid for her Yorkie.

So my question is what is Memphis worth, and what is all his gear worth? Before any one jumps in on why not to get rid of Memphis, you must understand that our agreement was that if he ever bit anyone, we would find him a new home, so I have no leg to stand on.

Here is the gear that I have:
    40 Gallon breeder tank
    2 UTH (1 XL and 1 Medium)
    2 dimmers
3 Zoo Med Thermometers with tempature probe
    2 XL hides
    1 huge water dish
1 unopened 8 dry quart bag of Loose Coconut fiber
    1 misting bottle
    1 rat carrier
1 stand (used to be a TV stand)

    All help is appreciated...

I would say about $100 something back maybe ...
It really all depends on where you sell it and how you sell it

    That's a terrible agreement.

    Hmm...

That biting agreement was probably not a good idea, for getting any type of snake.

Snakes bite, end of story. Some never get bitten but, when owning a snake there is a high likelihood you will get bitten.

No offense but, what were you thinking?

Yeah I agree with the above posts on this one, they are not puppies and kitties so not sure why you would agree to that. But if you're going to get rid of it at least let someone from the forum have the chance to take Memphis off your hands, for his sake at least make sure he goes to a knowledgable home.

Re: I hate to do it, but

Again, I did not ask for your opinions on keeping Memphis or on my agreement with my wife.

I have had another BP for over 2 years handled from day one and never been bitten.

But I guess I should've expected this kind of result from a forum...

Re: I hate to do it, but

I am sorry you have to rehome you snake. Don't be surprised if you have a hard time selling the tank. Is Memphis a normal? IF you are able to sell the entire setup you might get about 100. I know it doesn't seem fair, because you spent more than that, but it is all used. IF it where me I would post Memphis here and then you would at least give him to a home that knows about snakes (hopefully).
Good luck in finding a new home.

Re: I hate to do it, but

I'm sorry. Do you really want to sell him? As in is the money the important bit or that he gets a good home? If so why not consider giving him away for free under the condition that he is well taken care of?

Re: I hate to do it, but

I agree with $100, but probably take less if it's a good home.
If anyone here wanted a adult male normal, that would be good too.

Aside, yeah, snakes do bite on occasion, and you should probably talk over any other pets beforehand, since even a puppy or a hamster can bite on occasion. But she has every right to say "enough" when you guys had the agreement, and you have small children which makes her more sensitive.

Good luck! And maybe once the kids are older, she'll relent and let you have another reptile, since I bet the kids would love them.

Re: I hate to do it, but

It is more important that he go to a good home. Although I really don't think I want to have to ship him. I guess that is something I will have to think about.
