    got my first clutch...

had a questions for the more experienced breeders...

...I got my first clutch tonight, which came from a 4000G female.

9 eggs, candled them, 4 good, 5 bad. (the 5 bad where obvious, smaller, yellow, sorta wrinkled, etc.)

Is there a rhyme or reason for this? is it something I did or did not do?

I assume its the luck of the draw.

    Thanks for your time.

Happens to all of us, even Ralph Davis. Doesnt mean you did anything wrong......Lets hope you have happy babies in the near future, and good luck. BTW I had a girl lay 5 slugs for me once, no good eggs......sigh.

I agree . . . no reason . . . just luck of the draw. Thankfully you got 5 good eggs to watch over; I've also had entire clutches go bad. What did you breed to this big girl?

I just had a 3000+ girl lay 10 slugs and one little 64gm egg. Talk about disappointing....

Good luck with the 4 good eggs!!

    Re: got my first clutch...

I think getting slugs or not is something that just happens.

I have read that some people think that females can be too fat and will do better if they are slimmer. I've actually seen this discussed a lot regarding corns, but some regarding BPs too. So if your big girl is 4000g because she is just a big girl, then who knows. But if she was 4000g because she should be 3500g, but was carrying some extra fat, that might have something to do with it.

Good luck with the 4 good eggs, and your pastel x pastel clutch too!
