How hot is too hot?
Hey all. I moved my ball python into a tub set up yesterday, because I wanted to free up my 20L for a corn snake I picked up, and he seems pretty content. In fact, he had a perfect shed waiting for me to throw out this morning, not to mention a hearty deuce in his hide. :
I just had a question about getting the temperatures just right on the warm side. I have the substrate registering a solid 91-93F on my infrared temperature gauge, but I did see him shift the small amount of aspen exposing the plastic below and that is registering at about 100F. Would that be enough to cause burns if he stayed too long, or would he eventually decided to get out of dodge to thermoregulate before it caused any damage? Should I just try to get the plastic to 92F-ish given that I'm only using a 1/2" or less of aspen in the tub? I'm actually just considering going to newspaper since the aspen slides around so darn much in there.
Thanks in advance!

Re: How hot is too hot?
I use paper for substrate, and try to get my plastic to around 92F. I imagine that most others that use wood substrate would not let their plastic get over 95F.

Re: How hot is too hot?
I doubt, but do not really know one way or the other, that a temp of 100 would cause a burn. However, that does not mean it is good for the snake. It certainly leaves little room for error. Try to get it down into the low 90s.
And put pics of the new corn up in the corn forum!
