Breeding question
Ok i am new to the ball python world i just got my first ball yesterday from BHB. She is really cool and i do like how she is more clam then my corn.
So forgive my if this is a noobie question. I hear people talking about lines of a morph and what not and how there was one cool morph in the wild found (like the toffee one, man that thing is cool). I guess i was wondering how you would get more? The only way i can think is to breed the offspring with the parents i am mostly talking about recessive genes. I would think that inbreeding is a BAD thing. I have also heard that all the albino retics came from one caught in the wild...if that is the case inbreeding would be the only.
I want to start breeding in maybe two years. My goal is a super pastel so could i breed a male pastel to a normal female and then the offspring female pastel to the pastel parent. that way i would not have to buy another male pastel it is not a money issue i am a determined saver when i need to be j/w if it is ok to do.
This is my first time posting and i don't know much about breeding so no need to get mad if this answer is obvious like i said i am a noob here.

Re: Breeding question

Yes you could breed the female offspring back to the male, 3 yrs later. Why not buy a female & mate her with a normal male, and you could breed the male offspring to her in 2 yrs

Re: Breeding question
Ok so i am to believe that inbreeding is not a bad thing?
and would it take 3 yrs or just till it is 1500g? i know breeders power feed to get them up to weight i will do what is best for the snake and i am not in it for the money so i do have time.
Also what does a pastel female go for BHB has a male for 125 but i don't see a female that is not het for something.

In ball pythons, in-breeding, if you don't overdo it, is not a bad thing. Sometimes it is the only way to prove out a potential new morph or to duplicate a cool one found in the wild.
Also, it usually is rule of thumb that a female should be around 1500 grams and over 2 years old before you attempt to breed her. Some do it earlier with no harmful side effects . . . they will not breed until they are ready.
