    Unhappy 19 month old python stopped eating

    Hello i was wondering if anyone could help me my 19 month old python hasn't eaten since the 3rd of January. I have had him since he was 2 months old and have experienced no previous eating problems.
    Since the eating problems began i have tried a few things;
    • given him food whilst the room his viv is located in is dark
    • fed him in a separate feeding box once when covered, once when light was allowed in
    • given him a bleeding mouse
    • left him and a dead rodent in a pillow case over night
    • shook the mouse in front of him ( he used to take it if i just lay it outside his hide)
    • given him a black mouse opposed to a white mouse

    He appears to be healthy, and i havn't noticed any weight loss. Does any one have any suggestions?

    thank you very much

    HannahHm, may I guess that you are located in the UK? If you are, I understand that feeding F/T is your only option. Is this a correct assumption?

    yeah i am from the UK. Sorry for being dumb but what does F/T mean?
    if it means the mouse has to already be dead, in which case yes it is my only option as feeding live food to him is illegal unfortunately. :/

    Right, I understand your situation over there. F/T means frozen & thawed, but yes, basicaly dead.

    Have you tried heating up the mouse with a hair dryer or maybe put it in a plastic bag and running hot water over it? I feed only F/T myself, and I have found that heat is the key. Not hot enough to burn your BP, but still, pretty hot.

    Also, try various temps to see if you can get some interest from your BP.

    There is also a posibility that your snake is just in a fasting period right now. I can happen from time to time. As long as your husbandry is good, and he isn't loosing too much weight, he will most likely snap out of it when he's ready. Just keep offering him food on a regular schedule.

    I noticed you said he has a hide on one side. Does he have a matching hide on the other side as well? This will let him thermoregulate without having to lose the security of having a hide to rest in.
