Explain the ban...and is it really that big of a deal?

Drugs are illegal and sure are the easiest things to get, dont see much difference here.

And if i remember correctly it will just ban interstate trade or something like that?...but it is one of those things that is going to be impossible to regulate, you can easily put a ball python in cargo shorts pocket drive to whereever and continue your transaction

There will be no BHB Reptiles and 8BallPythons at the Daytona show anymore. That is, if there will be a Daytona show at all. And it will be quite a drive from Maryland/Michigan to Florida if we do chance a snake in the pocket...

C'mon. You know better than to think it's not going to affect you much!

It seems like it will affect the breeders not so much the consumers, depending on your state of course. Every type of snake I could afford anything under $3000 can be found in Florida for the most part, but lets say you are in Tenn. and the snake you want is in Florida, if you want it bad enough I am pretty sure you will make the trip, i know peeps that do it for guns and cars, so why not snakes esp. the price some of them are.

Don't get me wrong I love BHB and 8Ball they are 2 of my top 5 breeders, but as the little guy consumer with 2 snakes total and maybe a max of 4 down the road, this will have little affect to me and many other small time snake owners.

    See what I mean?

And that's how liberty dies. It is not by losing a big war, or have buildings blown up to pieces, or a great depression. It is little by little so that the common man will not care much about it and even greet it with thunderous applause (I got that from Star Wars III ). Until the time comes that you look around and realize, man! I can't even sneeze without getting a permit!

You are right in a way but wrong in another.

If you think this will not affect you you are wrong. Let's say you do have your 1-4 snakes. But now since they are banned you need a permit. $ . Then you need to keep that updated. $ . Then you need to make sure you home insurance accepts "exotic animals." $$. And if you don't own a home then you have to declare it to your landlord as a banned animal. We all know how often it is that landlords don't like reptiles. Especially, when they hear python they think - huge snake - . $$$ . Oh and don't forget.. feeders and snake supply demands will drop since less will own then you have to pay more or travel farther to get what you need. Since not everyone will have it. and on and on and on.
$$$$$$$ it will cost you. It can affect you more than you think.

However, you are right it will have a bigger affect on the ones that have more snakes than you and their businesses. But why such a nonchalant attitude? Aren't you a reptile enthusiast like most of us here? BP Veteran?

I get where you are coming from...never looked at it like that. But I am a huge enthusiast of balls and many other snakes, but with my years of experience I have seen a lot of problems with greed, neglect for lesser morphs etc. This regulation might be a good way in the long run to stabilize the industry to a more respectable manner. Permits are actually a great idea in the long run, the biggest problem we have right now is saturation of the market, permits will make the serious breeders stay and the hobbyist keep it to just that a hobby on the other side big breeders might become really greedy, because now they need the sale to compensate for the $ spent on permits.

These next couple years are going to be quite interesting...my short term recommendation would be to stock up on the snakes you want the most now, just like I am stocking up with weapons before the ban.

Perosnally I dont think this ban will happen, just because the community is way to big and when the case is presented the ignorance of the prosecutor on the subject will most likely have it overturned...

And we don't endorse illegal activity here at BP.net - so you could only buy ball pythons from breeders in your state - if they stay in business. Nor do we allow members to advocate illegal activity. Please be mindful of our TOS.

    8. No posts promoting illegal behavior will be tolerated, including but not limited to warez/pirating of copyrighted material, illegal drug or alcohol usage, and illegal ownership or trafficking of species.

Re: everybody better wake up & know about the ban!!

To say it will not affect you whether you have all the snakes you want in your home or have the philosophy you can still get them somehow is just wrong.

To not stand up and help those who's livelihoods depend on this business and all the others down the chain is lazy and wrong.

What if you have your bp but you need to take it to a vet? Get pulled over and are in violation of the ban trying to get your snake care?

America is controlled by 1% of its population for the exact reason and thinking that if it doesnt seem to affect me there is no reason to get involved....

If this was going on in a different country everyone would get together and meet and the door of the goverment and protest.....in other countries government fears its people and listen because of it......in our country our government controls decisions because of the attitude of well that really isnt right or it goes against the constitution, but since it doesnt effect me I am going to sit here in my home and watch American Idol with my beer and chips and not worry about my house blowing up from a rocket coming over from the other side of town..

My suggestion is talk to brian and adam, talk to ralph davis thru an email and ask what we can do to help them out....I have read several posts from them keeping us informed and what we should or should not do.

Anyways, my point was this.....if it doesnt affect me then I dont care is what continues to drive our country to where it is today and where it is going.......
