I don't think I would have discouraged her from the blood pythons. We got two and they are great. We have ball pythons that are more aggresive towards people than they are. Also most of the worry about not eating is gone with bloods as they are like vacuums when it comes to rodents and will readily accept frozen thawed. Also Blood pythons tend to do better in display type enclosures and come out to say Hi more frequently.

Ball Pythons are way more popular, but Bloods are just as easy to take care of and I have not seen very many people who own both say anything bad about the temperment of a blood python.

I'm just thinking about the size difference since my girl is still getting use to the idea of having snakes

You should try and convince her to get something that is a codominant/dominant gene. You have a better chance of getting non-normal looking babies. I love spiders, and pastels, and bees..... Look at this website. He has a wonderful page about genetics, and great pics of all the different morphs:

The main size difference between a blood and a ball is thickness which equals weight. I think a lot of unfounded rumors exist about them that turns people off of them as a pet. If I would have known more when we started out we may have a lot more bloods than we do. Granted 30 lbs of snake may sound intimidating, but when you get them as a baby you have a chance to grow your confidence while they grow in size. Our babies were 145 grams and 245 grams when they first came in and 6 months old.

Not that I have anything against balls as we have 28 and plan on many more additions to come. I just think when getting any animal you need to make sure it is what you want and not be settling for something you are OK with.
