My GF Rocks
Okay so a couple of days ago I was talking with my gf and a friend of ours, and I mentioned how I was thinking about possible getting into the breeding of balls. So today I get a phone call from my gf, and she tells that she found the snake that she wants a blood python. I told her I don't think that it's good choice at the moment since she's still a little iffey around Salazar the ball, and Cleopatra the corn, she then ask if we can get a 100% het pied female ball so she can get her pied that she wants without having to shell out like 2k. I so excited going to get another ball. I knew it would only be a matter of time before she caught the bug. So if anyone knows a good place to find a 100% het pied female let me know.

Re: My GF Rocks
Your other ball also has to be 100% Het. Pied in order to get a Pied.
You will also only be able to find young hets, from a lot of breeders around here. They price between 300-600$ and it will take about 2 years before the female is ready to breed.

Re: My GF Rocks
Wouldn't I be able to breed the offspring back to mother. I know it would take some time but I'm patient

That could take 3-5 years.

Ok so now she's talking about just getting a het pair sweet more balls. Where would be the best place to get a rack setup.

Re: My GF Rocks
You could breed the offspring back to the mother... but the offspring will only be 50% phets. So you'll never know if the male you choose is het for pied.
It makes a little more sense to buy a 100% het pied male and one or more normal females. That costs less, for one thing. But then you can breed him back to all of his female offspring, so you don't have to get lucky to have chosen one that is actually het. It will still take several years, because you'll have to wait for his baby girls to grow up to breeding size, but you greatly increase the chance of actually getting a pied the first year that you are breeding your second generation.
The fastest and most sure way would be to buy a pair of 100% het pieds. Many breeders will throw in a het male for free with the purchase of the het female, so it won't cost you that much more.

Re: My GF Rocks
Sorry, I had to laugh as I read this thread. I got a cute little adorable ittsy bittsy bp a few years ago thinking how cool it would be to own a real live snake.
Today I spend most of my free time up to my elbows in rat and mice poop, and I don't have a living room anymore. Welcome friend, and roll up your sleeves.

Re: My GF Rocks
Almost forgot, Freedom Breeder makes the best racks out there if you can afford them.
As far as display racks go... great for the viewer but not the best choice for the snakes. If you want to be able to see your snakes out and about at night I would go with 20 gallon long tanks with plexiglass covers. You can make a table to house several tanks side by side, with a piece of 11" flexwatt running underneath all of them on just one thermostat. I have snakes that actually prefer this set-up to my racks!
Good luck.
