Someone explain to me why lessers/butters cost so much more than mojos

I mean they both look great, they both throw some sick combos, they both make BELs... I'm going to be getting 2 or 3 morph males in a few months, one of which is going to be a mojo/lesser/butter. I personally like the lesser the best but money is an issue. I'll still probably go with what I like and suck it up but I just wonder why the difference in price. Is that just the way the market goes or does the lesser/butter just make cleaner, nicer morphs or what?

I apologize if this is a noob question but I'm just trying to educate myself on things like this before I buy anything.

Theres alot more mojos on the market, and alot of people have them already. Lesser butters are also a little higher in demand with all of the combos they are put into that look cleaner than when mixed with mojos.

Re: Someone explain to me why lessers/butters cost so much more than mojos

I think that lessers make the cleanest brightest BELs. I have mojaves, because I personally like the look of a mojave best, including some of the combos. Most people like lessers and the combos of lessers better, so there' more demand, and less supply.

Think about how many snows you see these days? The "snow" which originally was the "white snake", now looks messy compared to a real BEL with no pattern.

If you'll wait the price will go down. My first pastel was $100 from a local breeder, that pastel's mother was $2000 when she was bought as a baby. The co-doms and etc others are going down as we speak. The recessives are going down but nowhere near as fast. I heard that seven or eight years ago spiders were 20k!

Re: Someone explain to me why lessers/butters cost so much more than mojos

Another reason is that MKR destroyed the mojave market early on in the project, so they pretty much started out cheaper than lessers, and went down from there. A lot of people also seem to like lessers better, so the demand is higher. I personally like mojaves better than lessers for a lot of projects.
What are these mojavas I keep hearing so much about?

Morph King Reptiles... they notoriously had undercut the market price of many morphs although like Jake said mojaves were their big one.

Re: Someone explain to me why lessers/butters cost so much more than mojos

The more common the gene is the cheaper it is.
Mojaves were first reproduced in 2000 while lessers were first produced in 2001 from RDR's 'platty daddy'.
Ralph kept most of his back to find out what was going on with the difference between the 'platty daddy' and the lessers.
Morph king first produced the super mojave in 2004. From there all babies from a siper mojave are mojaves; imagine 12 full clutches of mojos.
From there its easy to see how the market would go.
Ralph likes to hold onto things and keep the market value up(IMO=smart) while morph king would have had tons of baby mojaves they would want to move out quickly.
Then once everyone and their dog got those mojaves breeding you can see how the number of mojaves vs lessers would affect market prices and availability.

I have a Mojave male at the moment. I would love to add a lesser to the mix asap.

This was a great question: Its funny how a small difference in a gene (lesser and mojaves alleles reside on the same lucus) can be worth so much comparatively.

Re: Someone explain to me why lessers/butters cost so much more than mojos

Yeah I figured someone flooded the market with them at one point. Is there any particular designer morph where the mojave works better than the lesser/butter or no? I honestly can't think of one off the top of my head. I guess the reason to own a mojo is if you are on a super tight budget and just want a white snake or you just personally like them better?
