Re: Who RFID chips there snakes?
I looked into it a few years ago.
The cost to do it was rather fair, but how many people would be willing to pay an extra $$ for a chip? And how much would you have to sell to outweigh the cost of buying the Chipper and the Scanner?
I let it lay by the wayside, although I think that it may be worth looking into again.

chips run around 6 dollars
and a scanner/reader can be built for mere dollars
i'm more worried about chipping such a small baby

Its just like giving a shot...
I would suggest going to see a vet to see how it is done/ practice if you were serious about it.

Re: Who RFID chips there snakes?
My vet offers it for about 25 bucks. That's not much compared with the cost of some of the morphs. I won't be doing it this year, but may look into it next year, or the year after. It's a nice little piece of insurance, it is IS a great thing to offer for hets. I think when you get into double or even triple hets, it would be triply important to chip them. ;D

Re: Who RFID chips there snakes?
I'd never chip a snake for identification of what it was het for....
I would just do like Ralph Davis does, and draw the pattern of the snakes on they're cards for reference.
And that method is FREE

I looked online. the chips cost 6 dollars and an injector gun is 30. I can build a simple reader for maybe 30 bucks.
I figure if I get into this, I will be learning the proper methods/safety and doing it myself.
The chip doesn't hurt the animal. all my other pets are chipped.

Out of curiousity,... why would someone chip a snake? I can understand cats and dogs since they can run away and then be returned,... but how far is a snake going to run?
1 baby normal ball python (male- Rios)
1 baby spider ball python (female - Missy)
1 albino checkered garter (male - Little Dude)
1 checkered garter (male - Hudinie)
1 albion checkered garter (female - Rescue)

Re: Who RFID chips there snakes?
I think the chips are a GREAT idea for anyone in the states where the Giants are being an issue, e.g. Florida.
Chip the ones causing problems and if found, come back to the negligent owner and let em have it.
