New RF Tortoise Enclosure :) DUW

Hey there! I finally started on my indoor tortoise enclosure for my red foot. We started with organic potting soil (no fertilizer) and a 55 gallon tank. We got an aloe plant, an agave cactus, and the third plant I forget the name! But it was on the list of "safe plants". We made a hide on one end with some bricks. She seems to like it so far I think, she's explored and looked around, was still checking it out when I left for work tonight.

(unknown plant...I know it begins with a 'B'!)

    Here's the aloe and agave

    Her hide

It's not done yet, I'll be getting some seeds for Creeping Jenny's or some sort of Sedum for ground cover. I'll also be getting a "decorative background" to block out the back and sides. I also will be installing a CHE on one (or both ends...not sure yet) and a UVB light strip across the top. I figure this setup will do at least for this year before we can upgrade by next winter. Thanks for looking

Looks great. My only suggestion is that you may want to close off a good portion of that tank, as Red Foots are very similar to Ball Pythons as for as heat and HUMIDITY requirements. They like plenty of humidity and don't really do too well under 70 degrees F. Try to keep them in the 80's and with some higher humidity.

Thanks, I haven't finished it yet, I will be adding a UVB light strip and two low watt CHEs for heat, as well as sealing off the top with a (probably) plexiglass lid in order to retain high humidity. I think red foots are actually less forgiving than ball pythons with heat and humidity. The enclosure I had her in before this was not up to their requirements and she did have some issues, I rushed to make this...just going to take a little time to finish it lol.

My boyfriend and I are going to build a tortoise table probably starting the middle of next summer. It will be a custom 5' x 8' enclosure

Aw that sounds nice, wish I had enough room for a redfoot!

Mine may be more like 3' x 5' when I first build it, then maybe add on at a later time. I love my red foot, I don't really have "room" for one, but I make room lol. They really are awesome, I'd love to get another one
