Final Decision
So I have been wanting to get a sugar glider, only thing is I work nights at a jail, and I have read that the will musk you with their scent glands and I did a lot of reading about their diet and all. So after talking with the lady that breeds them, she mentioned about a flying squirrel, so I did some googling and some reviews on the flying squirrels and viewed comparsions. I think the way i'm going to go is with a flying squirrel. Their diet is quite easier, and overall a few things are easier about them versus a sugar glider. So since all the people are secure where I work at during the night, I think i'm going to take my pet(when I get him/her) to work with me, and she can bond with me while I work since shes noctournal.

Re: Final Decision
flying squirrels are neat, make sure to check local regs though.. I believe they might be considered native in LA which may pose an issue for captive care as many states do not allow native mammals as pets.

Re: Final Decision
If i'm not mistaken as long as its CB it's ok. Not that it matters. I will check with F&W though.

Re: Final Decision
The Southern fliers are wonderful little creatures. I rehabbed a litter of them a few years ago and they were a joy to have around.

Re: Final Decision
Do you still have them, or did you get rid of them?
Also in La you do have to have a permit, it's $25 a year.

Re: Final Decision
They were bottle fed until they were old enough to release, then released.

Re: Final Decision
Ah. I think i'm going to get mine in like a month or so. I want to find out what's the youngest you can acquire them. Younger = better bond.
