    Incubator Problems Need Help

We've had our incubator up and running for a week now...its been dead steady and running perfectly. I put eggs in it on Friday and woke up this morning to find that the egg box temperature was 92 (the incubator is set at 91 b/c i have to set it a lil higher to get the eggs hot enough). I dropped the thermostat down to 89 and the temperature went up. I have a fan in there, we're using a herpstat pro, the recommended amount of heat tape for the size incubator...we can't figure out what's wrong with it... How is it running hotter than what the thermostat is set to?

Also, what are the odds of the eggs making it since they've been at 92? and possibly hotter...I have no idea.

Ok, we unplugged the heat tape from the incubator so no heat should be entering the incubator...but the temperatuer is still going up. Two thermostat probes and two accurites are all reading the same temp...so its not a faculty probe....we are seriously at a loss...heat is like magically appearing.

    Re: Incubator Problems Need Help

We think we figured out that the fan is generating heat. Its a Radio Shack Cooling Fan, 4 in 115VAC. Its been running for a week...so did it just overheat? Could we put in on a timer switch? Like one hour on and one hour off.

Without the fan there is like a 4 degree variant in the incubator...and we don't really feel comfortable buying a fan that we are going to have to wire with wattage conversions and stuff...

    omg this is so stressful...

Im not sure what kind of fan you have...but the first fan i put in my incubator was getting to hot and raising the temp.I took apart an old computer and use the fan from it now there is no extra heat from the fan.You can also get a nice fan from an old xbox 360.If you have to go buy a comp fan.best buy, walmart ect.
    Good Luck! Mike

    Re: Incubator Problems Need Help

I had the same problem with my incubator when built it with a 110v fan and I changed the fan to a 12V DC fan and connect it with a cel phone charger. Also just in case I connect the fan to a timer and set it 30 min on and 30 off.
That solved the problem and the temps has been steady since then.

I don't know abut the eggs... Maybe some one else can answer that.

Do you think I could put the big fan on a timer and it would be ok? Thanks for the help!

    Re: Incubator Problems Need Help

If I were you, I would just take the fan out. I don't use a fan in my incubator, and don't have any issues. I set my herpstat pro to 89F, and all of my balls hatch fine. I don't check the temps inside of the egg box either.
