    Thermostats

    I was wondering if anybody has any experience with the Herp Power thermostats from Big Apple Herp. There's a guy around where I am selling his for 75 a piece, and I was wondering if they were worth buying.

    Re: Thermostats

    I'd rather fork up the extra cash and get a proven to be reliable thermostat like a helix or herpstat. I think proportional thermostats should have digital displays; that whole knob adjustment seems kind of archaic for a proportional thermostat.

    Re: Thermostats

    That's the thing. I already have a herpstat, I just want to plan ahead and get a thermostat for the incubator that's going to be built at the end of this year. And if I can't run an incubator and a 5 shelf rack off of one, I need to either a) get more or b) get a herpstat pro. But the 315 bucks for the Pro are out of the question right now.

    Re: Thermostats

    i have owned three herp powers,they will work ok but even at $75 each are they a good deal? keep in mind they have only 300 watts per unit and adding a night drop is a hassle.for your rack and incubator you would need two for $150.

    i now own two herpstat's ll's and wouldn't own anything else.for your rack and incubator you could get one and have two probes with 700 watts on each with built in night drop and a ton of other features for a little over $200 plus it's new and has a warranty.no brainer IMO.

    Re: Thermostats

    Hold up. What if you run your rack and another different rack but with the same size flexwatt in parallel?

    like:
    I=Flexwatt

    __=wiring

    +=socket/plug in

    I__I__I__I__I____________I__I__I______+

    Re: Thermostats

    i'm not sure i follow your diagram,but if your Q is running multi racks on one probe yes you can.just make sure your wattage doesn't exceed the stat's rating.

    i have three racks (appox. total wattage 420) that i run off of one probe,just check all levels to be sure your temps are correct.the other probe controls two racks at different temps.hope this helps.

    Re: Thermostats

    The diagram basically shows 5 sheets of flexwatt wired in parallel, and the last sheet having a longer cord that leads to another shorter rack with 3 sheets of Flexwatt and then out to the outlet.

    Anybody else with an opinion on BigApple Herp thermostats? The guy said he'd give me both (new in box) for 120.
