    F/T Fail.

I wasn't surprised, though. There were three things going against me so my hopes weren't too high. I double switched him, live rat to frozen mouse, on top of the fact that he decided to go into blue.

I'll keep trying but I am just wondering how long Oz should go without food. I know he is technically fine until I notice weight loss but I do not want to starve him to the point of malnourishment. He is about 220 grams and I feed him every 6-7 days. How many feedings should he miss before I give in and feed him a live ASF?

A lot of snakes will not eat when they are in blue, the switching of the prey item didn't help also. The switch from live to f/t is a lot hard to accomplish than the switch from F/T to live. I would try again after he sheds.

Yes that is exactly what I said in my post lol...

My question is how long should I hold out for before giving in and feeding him a live if he refuses every frozen attempt.

What was he previously feeding on? Keep him on that, and offer food the next normal feeding date after he sheds. If you do want to switch they prey item type pick a one and stick with it. Constantly changing your bps routine will just prolong the feeding issues. They like routine and once you get them on one they do great.

    Re: F/T Fail.

It varies with each snake, but BPs can usually remain healthy for about 4 months without food, more or less. The important thing when converting to f/t is not to switch it around, as Spaniard said. If you are determined to get him on f/t, don't feed him a single live food item until you give up, or you will be starting all over again.

Also, don't offer every few days. Offer food every week. If he doesn't take it, wait another week before trying again. He has to understand that if he doesn't take food when it's offered, he may not get to eat again for a while.

Good luck! Converting my girl to f/t is on my to-do list... someday. Want to get her up to breeding weight first for this season.

    Re: F/T Fail.

I kept him on his previous feeding schedule for 3 weeks, I fed him a live hopper ASF. The only reason why I want to switch him to f/t is because it is easier to get then live.

I don't try to feed him every few days; I wait a week whether he takes it or not. I don't plan on changing after(if) he takes F/T.

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully he takes it this week.

Good luck!! I know what you mean; f/t is cheaper, easier to keep, and less of a threat to the snake. Wish it weren't so hard to get them to take it!
