Two Bad Eggs
My eggs are on day 29 and I've been checking on them every other day. Temp is staying a little above 87 and humidity is always above 90%. There have been two eggs going south. First, one was getting wet and moldy even though there was no condensation on the lid. It was getting darker on the inside and was deflating. The one next to it did not show any visible veins when it had shown some in the beginning. It too was getting moldy and deflating. Both were getting really bad and starting to smell. I opened the tub and a blast of this horrid smell met my nose so I took them out and cut them open. Both of these eggs were the ones pushed out of the nest by Akina when they were laid. Both showed veins in the beginning.
Bad Egg #1: Upon opening this egg, I found a solid white mass inside the shell. It had a bad odor. I took this out of the shell and crumbled it in my hands (wearing gloves) and found a tiny fetus (is that the correct term) inside. It was severely underdeveloped and its body was brown (obviously dead). There were no visible veins.
Bad Egg #2: When I opened this egg I was again greeted by a horrible odor and a white mass. The egg did prove to be fertile but the egg was solid all the way through and the fetus inside, while more developed, was also dead.
I have taken pictures of both babies and will post them if anyone wants me to. I am horrified and I feel so sad to know that the little babies died. The other three eggs are doing fine. Good strong veins and I have seen movement in at least two of them. Wish me luck.

Re: Two Bad Eggs
Best of luck with your remaining eggs. I don't know that I'd have the stomach to cut open bad ones to look, but kudos to you for doing so. Posting pics might be educational for all of us though. Just make sure to post a warning that they're graphic and not to be eating when you look at them. It's kinda like having a mouthful of rice when you're watching TV and they decide to show maggots.

Yea. I'm one of those "I need to know why this happened" kind of people. Now that is not to say I would cut open my own cat if he died, but I think of cutting these eggs open to be a learning experience for me. I have now experienced "In Egg Baby Ball Death" It is very depressing and now I'm going to be pacing in front of that incubator for the next month.

I've seen maggots in the hospital before... I have to say, I lost my appetite completely after that one.
No food at all.. never know whats crawling in it...

Ok, how would I go about making the title of the thread say graphic? I've uploaded the three pictures I took of the babies.

Re: Two Bad Eggs
I had a jungle carpet python egg go bad a little over a week into incubation and wound up cutting it away from the rest of the clutch. I found a solid mass and what might have been a tiny embryo in that egg. It made me feel awful as though I could have prevented it and didn't. I know that's not the case, but it doesn't make the loss much easier. I'm sorry those two didn't make it for you. Keeping my fingers crossed for your other three.

You can just put it at the top of the post. I'm very interested to see these.
