    Cat Urination Problem

    Hello,

I need some help - I have had two indoor cats for the better part of 10 years with no problems, well recently I found a 4 week old kitten that had been abandoned on the side of the road and we brought it home. I have already spent close to $500 on this kitten with vet bills and meds but she is doing really good and is a happy healthy kitten now.

This is where the problem comes in - my adult cats (at least one of them) is not liking this new addition very well and has started to pee in the house - I can not tolerate this and am wondering if someone has some helpful suggestions.

I am considering re-homing the kitten in hopes that this will stop the peeing in the house by the adult cats - your thoughts.

    Thank you.

Probably the last thing you want to hear after spending $500 on vet bills for a cat you haven't had long.
But are your adult cats neutered?

Yes, my two adult females are both spayed - they are 10 & 11 years old. The new kitten is female also and will be spayed and declawed once she is old enough.

How many litter boxes do you have? You'll need multiple ones in different locations or they will urinate all over the house. I had 3 boxes for 4 cats. Once tried cutting down to 2 boxes, had urine all over the floors.

    Re: Cat Urination Problem

I have always had an extra large one in the basement that the two cats have shared for years - the kitten had her own in the cage I was keeping her in because she had a parasite issue and had to be caged for the duration of her meds.

I really believe that she pee'd in the house because she is mad that I brought in the kitten - I don't think it is a litter box issue - she is just a brat.

I think we are going to rehome the kitten - we've only had her for three weeks so it will be easier to rehome her. I've had the other two cats for 11 years - can't make them leave - LOL!!!!

Hopefully once the kitten is gone - the other cats will straighten up.

they might get used to the kitten though... my cat of 8 years would beat the crap out of our kitten when we brought it in last year. now they are best friends.

im not going to turn this into a de-claw discussion but please, please, please, look up what declawing actually is. there are other alternatives to declawing now that are much better for cats, softpaws being one.

and i;ve heard a product called feliway can help with kitty anxiety which is what your other cats may be experiencing. also check for crystals or blockage and the usual stuff.

    good luck with them.
