What's the difference between a BCI and a BCC?

I know very little on this matter, but most BCIs that I have seen do not have the same pronounced red tails as BCCs do.

Isn't there something about the connection of the saddles in BCCs as well?

BCI and BCC are subspecies, along with Amarali, Longicauda, Sabogae, etc. BCI is your typical common boa, usually from colombia. This is what most of your morphs will be unless they are crossed with other subspecies. Dont confuse this with the locality of the boa, which may be any of the subspecies (Hogg Island is a BCI for example, and is naturally hypomelanistic, but a totally different snake than a hypo colombian BCI). In general BCC's have the bat like widows peak saddles and a blood red tail, which is why they are called the "true" redtails. They may not be as tame as a BCI either, especially when wild caught. When raised from babies and captive bred they can be just as calm though. To make things even more confusing each locality has its own distinct markings. Some boa keepers are into morphs only, and in this case you are dealing mostly with Colombian BCI. Other more "purist" keepers view morphs as the propagation of genetic defects, and only deal with the various subspecies and locality boas, which all have their own unique patterns and colors in the "normal" form. Some such as myself enjoy them all! Check out Vin Russo's site cuttingedgeherp for some good info on subspecies, localities, etc.

I got a couple of pics to show u the difference;

On the picture below you will see the common windows-peaks witch are usually seen on the BCC subspecie, but still here are some without the windows-peaks;


As second we have the red tail of a BCC, i never saw a TRUE redtail without the red in the tail;



Also watch carefully at the side pattern, this is also different from the BCI group, the samples above are from the suriname locality...


My advise;
Just watch loads and loads of pictures, only after a while you really start to recognise them...

Something i allready wanted to say at this forum;
Why is the redtailed boa subforum in use for imperator boas and morphs as well.... A redtailed boa in my eyes is a BCC no exception...
