    Question for Male Cat Owners...

    Hey All,

I'll try and cut right to the chase, but I need some answers from people who own male cats. Long story short, the wife fell in love with a cat at the local Humane Society, who happens to be a male, and she really wants to bring him home (not a problem we have two female kitties), but I've heard that male cat urine really stinks, he is fixed which I've read alleviates some of the problem, but is it really that bad if they've been fixed? We already have multiple litter boxes if that makes a difference.

    Thanks guys/gals!

I've never noticed a difference. Both neutered and not.

I've never noticed a difference either. Just clean the litter box often. All urine and poo stinks. lol.

I have had an ex who was peed on by a male cat (actually it was spray). Ooops. lol. But you shouldn't have that problem if he's fixed.

He'll be a great, loving addition to your family.

I don't think it's particularly stinky - I clean the litter box out daily and don't even smell it.

I have 3 males- they don't smell any different/worse than my 2 females. Just scoop the box daily and you shouldn't have issues.
Cat urine if they spray smells bad and is hard to get out though. They usually don't spray unless they have not been fixed or if they have a kidney/bladder problem.

Re: Question for Male Cat Owners...

If he is neutered he shouldn't spray anywhere. As for the smell...
    Urine is urine...however.
Don't let your cat get a habit of crawling on the stove.
If they should ever urinate on the stove top, and you don't see it before turning it on...man are your olfactories in for a surprise.

Our cat used to do that and man, it is the worst thing I have ever smelled. We finally got her neutered and she stopped. Unfortunately she died a few months later from unknown complications.

Re: Question for Male Cat Owners...

I have to agree...not really noticed much of a difference and with mine always having been neutered I have never had a spraying problem.
