Re: No more breeding.
I don't keep as many rats just 10 although they do smell when I don't change them 2x a week. They are in a locked bathroom with a fan and a window LOL! I also have just one male so it cuts the stink. I honestly would take 100 rats to + the smell of 20 mice. I had just 6 and they stank soo bad I killed them off and now have dwarf hamsters in the cage!

BTW I keep only one male for 10 rats keeps the smell down too. Male rats are the real stinkers

Re: No more breeding.
I am currently breeding both rats and mice. As soon as I get my rats going a little better (both females had litters of 10 pups that I will keep 1 male and 1 female from), I plan on feeding off most of the 40+ mice that I have. I have to agree that the mice stink alot worse than the rats.

Re: No more breeding.
I'm doing it a bit inhumane but I'm allowing back to back pregnancies 2x( most didn't even get to keep the babies for longer then a week) then giving them a rest until my frozen stock gets smaller. All but 2 this was thier first litter so I think it's fine.

Re: No more breeding.
My male rats (Pets!) don't stink really at all.
I mean, I obviously have way less than you breeders, but I was responding to males being stinky.
Maybe it has to do with mine being litter trained? No idea.

there are many studies that suggest that allowing "resting periods" also creates wear on a female...its a coin toss really.
My stuff is all bred as nature intends.
