    why is it?

That I've been to wal mart, target, home depot, lowes, and ace hardware and not a single one of them sells vermiculite, perlite without miricale grow, or spaghnum peat moss with out miriclae grow. The only thing that any of these places have is miricale grow brand perilite and miriclae grow brand spaghnum peat moss both are enriched with miricale grow plant food. I'm not an expert but I would not think that these would be good for the geckos or the eggs. Although I told my b/f today during our search for this that it would be pretty funny if I incubated the eggs in it and the baby geckos came out gigantic because of the miricale grow! LoL

Because miracle grow has contracts with all of these companies.

I had to get my plain perlite from a local private non-chain garden store.

    Re: why is it?

I found some at lowes once. Did you actually ask someone there if they had it? Sometimes they have things in areas you wouldn't expect...

A local feedstore ended up having huge bags of it. I was looking for the larger bags for my raised bed garden. Check also with your local plant nursery.

Find a local nursery. I got a HUGE bag of vermiculite for $2.50 at a local place.

Lowes carries the sphagnum moss without additives. Can't remember how much, but it's there. I've even seen regular perlite there as well.

YEA!!! i finally found my non treated vermiculite at a local non chain gardening store. It's not a super huge bag and it's resealable which will be awesome for storing it.
