    First Refused Feeding.....

    Hi Everyone,

I have had my Female BP for 10 months now and have been successful with getting her to eat every Wednesday faithfully this whole time. She is about 1.5 years old and weighs 967 grams.

Well, last night (her feeding day) I noticed that she was heavily into a shed cycle - I offered her the weekly rat but she didn't even come out of her hide - just peered out and showed no interest.

Since I feed F/T I decided to just lay the rat in the cage overnight to see if she would eventually eat - but she never did.

Should I be concerned about this??? I have read that some don't eat during a shed cycle but she has in the past.

Any suggestions on what, if anything I should do.

    Thanks everyone.

No, I don't think there is anything to worry about. She is most likely not eating because of shed, or she may just not be hungry.

Agreed! Shed is causing her to not eat. wait till after shed and she will eat again.

Thanks for the responses. Should I wait until next week now to offer feed again - to keep her on her feeding schedule???

Hi, I offer all of my ball pythons prey each week regardless if they are in shed or not. Some take them, some don't. It is easier to do this when you breed you own rats, and feed live. If they don't eat, I put the rat back in the rat colony until next feeding.

Great - it sounds like I have nothing to be worried about. She should be good and hungry next Wednesday when feeding day arrives - LOL.

Thanks to all who helped out.

    Re: First Refused Feeding.....

Perfectly normal. Once in a while I have one go off feed during a shed cycle and skip more than one feeding. No big deal.

    Re: First Refused Feeding.....

This is my first and only snake and she has never done this before so I was afraid she was going on a food strike or something. I will simply wait the week and offer her a rat at that time and pray that she takes it.
