I clean every time the snake tip over the water dishs. Or once a week... whichever happens first. Usually it's the water dish tipping over.
I have to get some crock dishes...

Aspen cages - spot clean every other day, clean out 2-4 weeks depending.
Paper cages- once a week or when dirty.

I do a full substrate change when the crap and pee and shed all over the place. They usually do a good job of spreading it evenly through the cage so I just give in and change everything :/

I used to spot clean with aspen a few times a week as needed, and changed the aspen completely once every two weeks or so.
I'll check out tractor supply.. not like I need ANY excuse to go there!
