    Finally!

I've been keeping a close eye on my only mouse breeding group and finally have some progress. One of the females is pregnant and I suspect one more of being pregnant. I have them at a 1:3 ratio. It was 1:4 but one of the females died yesterday. She was frail and I didn't think she would last long. The other three are healthy and I'm very excited to finally have my colony starting up.

I can take a picture of one of the feeder mice I'm keeping. She came in pregnant and so I've kept her to allow her to give birth and raise her babies. I'll try and get a picture tomorrow.

    Re: Finally!

I know this is a little late. For some reason it didn't tell me someone had posted.

A 2.4 ratio. I've never kept multiple males in a breeding group. Do they fight at all? It could be genetics. If the mom has bad genes, so will the babies and they won't last long. I had a female rat who lost her first litter at an early age and her second litter died at around 3 weeks old. I stopped breeding her to that male and bred her to a different male and the third litter did better.

I'm having some mice die on me lately but I think its the heat. The room they are being kept in would reach up to 85 during the day, but we've cranked up the ac and its better.

Also make sure your females are old enough. I don't breed a female unless they are 12 weeks old. Too young and you risk miscarriage, small babies, and losing the mother.
