has anybody ever used these?
has anybody ever used these as racks? i am getting another snake and was thinking of switching from tanks to tubs and doing some shopping around. they seem kinda flimsy to me but if someone else has had success then i would concider it.
back heat would have to be used....
just a thought

Re: has anybody ever used these?
Those things have a lot of divots and dangerous spaces that snakes can squeeze into. They also don't have any support on the sides, and the snakes usually can just push their way out. A lot of leaky areas.
I've looked into them, they're not very reliable.

Yea, they have places small snakes could get out, and for larger snakes, they could easily get out, its rather flimsy.

I would stay away from those, they don't look very snake proof. I would look in the diy forum and consider building your own. Its a fun and knowledgeable experience that saves some money in the long run.
I use to keep mine in tanks and i switched them to tubs about 4 months ago and it is like night and day. I find it a lot easier to perform the matienence on them when I can just slide it out and do my business and slide it back.
I also find it easier to keep the husbandry, such as the temp and humidity, spot on. I cant be more pleased as my ball's have yet to refuse a meal in the last 3 months, there feeding response is SCARY when compared to the tanks.

I've used them as rodent racks with lots of mesh and support added. But NOT for snakes.
Don't do it. They're flimsy, and have open spaces all over the place.

My house? ... 13 snakes, 3 geckos, a tarantula, a boyfriend, a roommate (yes the roommate and boyfriend make the "animals" list), 3 cats, a roach colony and don't ask me to count the rodents.

Re: has anybody ever used these?
My advice is to the best of your ability invest in a nice rack system, or use forums and posts on how to possibly build your own. Although investing money in rack systems and husbandry care is not as fun as lets say buying a bp...........it is the best investment you can make. A nice bought or well built rack system will make care of the animal, maintaining husbandry needs so much easier in the long run.
I am not sure what the ratio would be, and since I have no build it skills, I would say to this point I have put more into housing, husbandry care, environmental control and monitoring devices then I have into the 10 bps I have purchased. Again I purchase my racks and dont build, but in general looking for ways to save money with the care and housing of the animal is not a good idea.
In my opinion not providing the best in housing and care items for the bp is like buying a $1000 rare baseball card and displaying it on a stick in the front yard. Protect your investments......the better the housing and husbandry control the better the animal will do.

Re: has anybody ever used these?
I"m actually using one of those for my snakes right now while I get ready to build a more permanant one. I had one already, so I spent about an hour with some liquid nails, alum tape, and some foam board and quickly added back panels, side panels, and velcro tape to keep them closed. A few holes drilled in for ventilation. Heating is not great, but working for now. My little dumeril's boa does great in it. My BP does to, but he really tests it out and tries to get out. He has yet to actually get out, but I see him testing it now and then. I have them in a locked reptile room, so if a snake does every get out, there is really no where to run or hide
