    Injured lower jaw

Tonight was feeding night and one of my BP's injured his lower jaw.

After putting the rat in his tub a heard a nice loud whack. I assumed he tagged his rat so I took a look to make sure he had a good hold on it but the rat was in the opposite corner.

I gave him another 15 minutes but he never took the rat so I removed it. When I removed the rat he looked fine. That was around 9PM.

I just checked on everyone because I was about to go to bed and noticed some blood in the front of the tub. I was able to get a pretty good look inside his mouth and his lower jaw looks a little askew and there was a small drop of blood forming at the front of his lower jaw, inside of his mouth.

My question is; is there anything else I can do besides keep an eye out for infection?

    Thanks,
    Terence

    Re: Injured lower jaw

It might be similar to what happened to one of my girls recently:
    http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=83383

I just kept a close eye on it and within a few days everything appeared normal. I fed her as usual on her next feeding day and she ate fine and has been fine since.

With no picture of yours, I can't really say if it is the same or not. As you can see in the pics in my post, my girl's injury was so minor it was almost impossible to get it to show up in a picture. If yours is that way also, I would think you'd be ok to just watch it closely but otherwise do nothing.

    Re: Injured lower jaw

is it in her gum line where her teeth are? she may have just broke a tooth or 2 off and is a lil uncomfortible now. Keep an eye on it and hopefully its not any worse

    Re: Injured lower jaw

kc, His jaw does look like the picks you posted in the other thread, kinda dented in on one side. But the blood was on the inside of his gum-line.

Jeff, that never crossed my mind, its quite possible he knocked a tooth out.

    Thanks guys.

I have a feeling he lost a few teeth. nothing to worry about just make surei t does not get infected or turn into mouth rot and your good to go. those teeth will grow back in a few weeks.

    Re: Injured lower jaw

I fed him last night and everything went well. I'm guessing he just nailed the side of his tub and knocked a tooth out. I'll have to get a final look in his mouth this weekend just to make sure everything is all good.

I'm just glad it wasn't worse.

Thats one of the reason I decided to keep my girl in a tank. No un-necessary injuries. Glad yours is ok again, and eating fine!

How does keeping her in a tank as apposed to a tub prevent unnecessary injuries?

I honestly don't see your rational.

    Re: Injured lower jaw

I second that. injuring its self in a strike can happen in a tank or tub. i don't see the rational either.
