Re: Anyone Know a good guide for Hognoses?
Jenea at http://www.guardianreptiles.com/ has written a book on keeping hognose snake species. It can be ordered on CD in PDF format or you can buy a bound copy. I like http://www.hognose.com/; although some of the links don’t work, the buttons on the left do.
Hognose snakes set the bar for personality in my opinion, but I wouldn’t consider them a ‘social’ species in captivity. I’m of the opinion that snakes in general are solitary animals and that Hognose snakes are no exception. Cannibalism might be extremely uncommon, but has been reported in captive collections, especially among hatchlings or different sized cage mates. Many keepers recommend solitary enclosures outside of breeding season.
In my experience I’ve never had problems having them together for short periods of time for purposes of display, temporary housing, or breeding.
Some have strong opinions about this topic:http://forums.kingsnake.com/viewarch...show_threads=2
Best of luck, Adam
