    Just Curious about mouth rot.

I went to a local petstore today and i was looking at the baby blood they had but the girl there was saying hes real nippy which i know is normal. she also said hes got mouth rot and the vet told her to use Listerine to heal it has anyone ever heard of this method. just out of curiosity purposes thanks again.

I've heard of a method involving Listerine. Whether or not it was diluted I'm not sure. But that's pet store advice and NOT the recommended course of action, which would involve antibiotics.

thank you 2k thats what i figured i was gonna say you should use baytril or something of that sort but she wanted nothing to do with my advice. she seemed to be scared to even go into the tank. then again this is the place i bought my 8 foot boa and when i took it out the tank all the employees ran away.

Yeah Baytril would be one to consider, but Amikacin seems to be the drug of choice with bloods. You could tell them this, but sad fact is it most likely won't change a thing on they're end.

yea the people that work there dont want to listen to people who know what they are talking about it seems. but i will pass the word on if they take the advice then good but if not o well they may learn from there mistakes. and thank you again for clarifying that for me. i was kinda confused when she said it.

Re: Just Curious about mouth rot.

the best way i have found ( from experience ) for mouth rot
    is using Q-tips and peroxide.

using a Q-tip lightly wet the end with peroxide ( not soaking or dripping wet )
dont want to much in the mouth and gently rub the area that has the infection on it .
do this 3 times a week until mouth rot is gone .

if infection gets worse and not better then a vet trip would be in order .

but the way i just explained is a method that anyone with some exp. in treatment of snakes can do ,and it wont cost you an arm and a leg .

its a proven method i know i have done it and it truly works .
I love it when people tell me, "You should think before you speak!" I'm like, "I did. It's what I think and I really don't give a crap what other people think."

Chlorhexaderm mouth rinse is a good thing to use too (probably better than peroxide - no tissue damage), but trying to use it can be tough!

well i have not used Chlorhexaderm mouth rinse , but peroxide if "done correctly" does not cause tissue damage . if overdone then yes it can but if a proper treatment is administered then you wont have that kind of problem .
i can show the mouth of my female spider when she had a tooth cause her the get minor mouth rot , and you would see if shown the picture no tissue damage done at all and the damage caused by the rot has since healed and recovered perfectly ..
