Starting to believe the color of mice matters
The past two times I tried to feed my snake he didn't even pay attention when I used a white mouse. I just got in a put him into his tub with a brown one and he wolfed it down. I was getting worried.
So apparently it is true, The color of the mouse does matter. Atleast to my snake

Re: Starting to believe the color of mice matters
Glad to hear your snake ate!
When i first got my girl I was told that she refused a brown mouse 2 weeks prior and to stick to white so I too believed it.
but since I read about prescenting, I have been prescenting her enclosure with the petco box (that smells awful!!!) she hasnt missed a feed no matter what color the mouse was since September!
But if your snake is being picky then just try to always get brown, I know when you buy F/T mice from petco you have no say in color so I figured I'd give that little tip that I learned when I got my girl.
If he still refuses another color and you do not have a white mouse available, try to re-offer it to her a few days later, he might be a little less picky when he's a bit more hungry!
Hope I helped

Re: Starting to believe the color of mice matters
My lil girl only eats female mice ... shes been on and off feed for a few months now and ive noticed that she readily eats female mice but only reluctantly if ever eats male mice... as for the colour issue i havent had any problems feeding with white or brown, but ive only used brown maybe 4 times

It worked. We are not trying to come to any scientific conclusion that will change the way we look at snakes forever, You really can't argue what snakes choose to eat case by case.

Re: Starting to believe the color of mice matters
I'd have to agree. It's BS unless the snake is a non-acclimated wild-caught.
Stop taking the snake out of its home to feed it. That just stresses him out and doesn't let him prepare himself for what is happening. Just leave him in his home with a hide, pre-scent the room with the mouse or whatever for 30 minutes, dim the room, and drop the mouse onto the opposite side that the snake is on. Close the lid and leave the snake alone.

Re: Starting to believe the color of mice matters
This board is so messed up in everyone tells you how to raise your snake in every thread no matter what it's about and everyone has different answers. I can write a thread about drinking pepsi and someone will come on here and say " make sure the temps up and to check the bottles humidity". You do not know every snake personally and this thread was not made to get advice, Simply pointing out my experience with this snake.
There are a few good posters here, but everyone always has different ways of doing things and I'd much rather just read a book about it than deal with you closed minded people.
The people that gave me good advice, Thank you it's more than appreciated.
PEACE

Re: Starting to believe the color of mice matters
BS? Color-blind? Dunno!
All I know is that my axanthic refuses rats that are not white. I have tried with black rats and hooded rats. No go. White headed rats is all she will take. I even turned a dark headed around and offered the white butt and, what do you know? She took it!!
Silly snake!
