    How Much Food?

I just got my BP a few weeks ago and he's doing great but I was wondering how much I should feed him.

He's about 8"-12" and I am feeding him a hopper every five days.

How much should I feed him and how often?

Sounds like the same feeding schedule I use with my hatchlings. Once he gets to about 150 grams, you can go to a 20 gram adult mouse every 6 days.

Get yourself a digital scale.. I like to feed my young ball pythons every five days. I like to feed a prey item approx 10 % of my snakes weight.Another good rule to use is to feed a prey item thats the same width as your snakes largest width. Hope this helps.

I already have a digital scale so I'll have to weigh him tomorrow.

If I fed him a prey item that was the same width as my snakes largest width than I would be feeding him adult mice. I'll have to weigh the adult mice and see if they're 10% of his weight.

    Re: How Much Food?

my snakes never eat rats...never....i try and try but they reject them. so i burn all my money on mice....

the bigger male and female eat 5-6 mice spread out 2 times in a week.

the smaller females eat 2-4 mice spread out 2 times a week. seems like a lot, but if they ate rats, then it would be 1 rat a week...and the little monitor, will destroy about 5 pinkies a week along with plenty of crickets and worms.

    Re: How Much Food?

I weighed my BP today and he weighed 132 grams and then I weighed the hopper mouse that I fed him and it weighed 10-11 grams so I guess hoppers are the right size for him.
