    New Puppy...

I just got home from the kennel.

I got a German Shepherd. I have not had one since I was a child. These are by far my most favorite breed.

His mother is a gorgous black and tan, his father is a black and tan who was imported from Denmark.

The mother has won first place at several dog shows. The father was in the Danish Air Force.

He is going to be a massive pup. His paws are already the size of my knee. His father weighs around 175Lbs. The mother is around 125Lbs.

I was not going to buy a dog today but I saw this dog and I immediately fell in love.

Pics will be posted tomorrow. It is dark here and I would like to get some good pictures in the sunlight to show of his real colors.

I love Shepherds too....be careful with joint problems, especially hip dysplasia, even more especially since both the dam and the sire were on the big side for the breed.

    Re: New Puppy...

175lb male and 125lb female??? either both are WAY overweight or they are breeding large boned shepherds, if so have fun paying 1000's on vet bills for hip and joint problems. no disrespect at all just letting you know that kind of weight on adult gsd's is NOT normal. my male is considered large and is almost over breed standard he is 27" at the withers. did they show you proof that the female was a show dog? because no show that i know of would let an overweight/big boned in espeically if its weight reflects its size

    Re: New Puppy...

as far as sport or protection goes...does he even have the drive to do either? thats the first question you have got to ask yourself. go to a club after he gets all his shots and have an expert evaluate him for both. as far as a child goes as long as you raise the pup to respect the child AND vice versa there should be no problems make sure the kid feeds/lets out/water/brush/walks/and even helps a little bit with the initial OB training. my parents/family have been breeding gsd's since before i was born...do you realize how much work/time/money/training/socializing goes into breeding any dog but especially shepherds i mean you might make a small profit but nothing close to a great one. my parents do it on the side, they both have full time jobs my dad is a k9 officer and mom works at home just think about what your doing before you bring more shephers into the world that could end up in wrong hands like many do. breed for fun and love of the breed not profit.
