Talking When do you step your boa into a bigger cage/tub?

From Baby boas to big boas, what are the different size tubs you keep them in as they grow and get bigger.

for instance maybe 6qt, 32qt, and so on.

I have my 08's in 12qt tubs, and just skipped the 6qt to give them more room to move around.
However I am a little stuck where to put them next, I was thinking just putting them in cb70 racks but that might be too big of a jump. So I was thinking maybe 32qts then cb70's then 4'x2' cages.

What do you do with your snakes.

I am planning on moving our babies into 40ish qt's, then into their permanent enclosure, probably 4x2's, maybe 6x2 (especially the girl).

So they are in what 6qt or 12qt, then going to 41qt tubs?

that's the jump I was going to take was from 12qt to 41qt but now I'm debating it, I don't know if it will be too big of a jump.

I put a wee one right into a 3x2x1 cage and she did perfectly.
I put a 4 month old and a 6 month old into 3x2x1 cages and they were both fine as well

    That sounds so crazy!

But you are proof you can stick a little one in a big cage. Maybe I will just go from 15qt tubs to 41qt tubs.
it does make me nervous though, I feel there should be something in between lol.

Re: When do you step your boa into a bigger cage/tub?

From my own personal observations with my one RTB that I got for Christmas, I don't believe that they are as picky about being totally 'secure' and in tight spaces like BP's are. I have my little girl in a 32 qt tub, and if she were a bp i'd still be housing her in a 15 qt. She LOVES it in that tub too man! I still supply two home made hides from the bottoms of flower pots, and her bedding is aspen, which she also loves to burrow in. She eat's like a champ and isn't aggressive, so I peg that as her being comfortable in that 'big' of a tub.

Re: When do you step your boa into a bigger cage/tub?

I think boas are a little more resilient than ball pythons when it comes to space.
I got my boa from Jimi, and I had asked him what size I should move her up to. She was in a 6qt with him, I had her in 12qts for a while. She was just so active and never missed a meal, always healthy. So I put her in a 4x2x2 cage once I got them, and never looked back. I did monitor her eating, moods, and weight for several weeks. She is still the same boa, just with more room to roam, which believe me she uses.

Boas are really curious about everything and I think mine appreciates (as much as a snake can) the extra roaming room.

EDIT: I would like to add that she has many plants, and hides in her cage in various different places with different temps so she never has to chose between security and a comfortable temperature for her. Although she really doesn't use the hides, she loves the vine, and burrowing in the aspen.

Lol!! Not the first time I have been called that!!!

Boas love to climb also, and so the cage is great for that vertical room. I also give them an aspen play area so that they can burrow and hide when they choose.

Boas and balls are very different snakes...!

Re: When do you step your boa into a bigger cage/tub?

I agree with the other posts, boas are not as picky about having too much space, and they do like to climb and cruise around more, so as long as they still feel secure enough to keep eating, thermoregulating and are shedding fine....the bigger the better.

Right now our babies are in 15qt's. Heres some pics in case you wanted some. For size reference, the top tub is a 40qt.

And, the inside...this is our girl, Lillith

Re: When do you step your boa into a bigger cage/tub?

    Wow!

I have nothing else to say but thank you to everyone who helped. I feel more confident having them in the 12qt tubs and then putting them in 41qt tubs now for sure.
I will keep them in the 12qt for a while though, but that all depends on how fast they grow.
