    Rope Light ????

Does anyone have experience with the LED rope light? We just built several cages and tried using the incandescent rope light, it's heating the cages up too much. We put the lights on a rheostat and dimmed them down very low to eliminte the heat, but they barely light the cage. I'm thinking about switching to the LED rope light, but I'm not sure how much light they actually put off. Will it light up the cage or just the rope? I'm not looking for bright light, but would like enough to see the snakes.

I feel like the LED rope lights put off more light with just about zero heat and use less electricity. I have LED rope lights lining the ceiling of my room and have considered putting them in my AP cages.

That's a cool idea I never even thought of that before! I might have to copy you

The LEDs shouldn't give off that much heat. I mean, the rubber that makes up the rope might get a little warm, but not to the point that it would give off a ton of heat.

    Re: Rope Light ????

I switched all my cages over last year to LED rope lights...they are awesome and no noticeable heat. They also give off a softer light than fluorescents do so they seem more natural (at least to me).

I bought the outdoor Xmas light versions from Wally world and such dirt cheap as they are on close out now.

    Re: Rope Light ????

We bought a closet light today that had 4 LED's in it. It puts of a fair amount of light considering. I'll probably buy a roll of the LED rope light, I thought about it when I got the incandescent rope light but the price difference was huge, $70 for a 150 foot roll of incandescent to $370 for 150 foot roll of LED. I've spent between $3000 and $4000 building this new cage set up and was trying to cut costs any way I could, I should have went with the LED's the first time. I'll post some pics of the new set up in the next couple of days. Thanks to all that responded.

    Re: Rope Light ????

I have used LED puck lights in the back of my racks for indirect lighting, mostly so I can see how the snakes are eating during feedling, and they are great.

Be sure to post pics when you get it set up.
