well it does make me a little suspicious that he's selling a proven breeder male for 200 bucks. I'm going to go meet him and check his pastel out and if I don't like him I won't get him.

Yep, I would like to see the orginal picture too (and ask for close ups of the face/eye and belly).

p.s The seller is supposed to be the one convincing YOU that it's the morph that he claims, you aren't supposed to be convincing yourself by photoshopping the pictures to be lighter.

He is just browned and not very appealing.

That you have a great looking pin is fantastic however why would you breed it to an inferior Pastel?

Selective breeding is important if you want to produce good looking offsprings, this mean both individual breeding should be a good example of their morphs.

Let’s say you go to a show and you have 2 snakes next to each other one being the good to great example of what the morph should be, the second one being average to mediocre.

Which one would you chose? Do you want to produce average to mediocre animals or do you want to produce good looking animals that people will actually be proud of owning?

I can see him being a Pastel, but I'd pass. If you are wanting to produce quality Lemon Blasts (Pastel Pinstripes), then you should use a really nice, bright yellow Pastel. Also, is it just me or does he look a little small to be an 800g Proven Breeder?? Look at his head in relation to his body.

If you aren't completely sure that he's a Pastel by just looking at a picture, then I'm sure that you can find a nicer one for sale.

I agree that the last original pic appears to be an older Pastel. I have no opinion on whether or not it's a good example. My tendency is to chose traits that I wanted to pass on in the offspring.

For example: Do you want brighter colors? (this pic of a pastel appears to have retained some coloration) longer rention of colors? More blushing? Pick those animals that have the traits you want passed on.

200.00 is not a low price, you said that it surprised you. Pastels have dropped in price, and there is a huge range of grades (probably the first snake people buy when they get into BPs and the first one they breed - hence alot of them kicking around and many not so great).

He is def a pastel, just a dark one.

Quick peek at the baby and I would pass myself. That baby is going to get very dark.

You'll know a bright pastel hatchling when you see one. That one is not a very good example of a Pastel. $200/$100 price tags seem about right.
