    ugh...

Im getting very annoyed, I cant find bulk rat food at a decent price!

I've called my local agway, they dont carry any pet foods

I've called all 3 of my local pet stores, the only one who can order large bags, wants an arm & a leg for it, its either 20 bucks for 25lbs or 25 bucks for 20 lbs, i forget which but thats still high especially since I see people get 50lbs bags for around those prices. but I'm better off buying it by the lb there as its 90 cents for the bulk stuff.

I've called or tractor supply, their store does not do special orders.

I have 2 more stores I can call, they are about 15 mins away, but after that I'm out of options.

Anyone else have any other ideas where I could look? Like offbeat kinda stores? (for example, I had no idea that some agway stores sometimes sold pet foods)

Try the dealer locator on Mazuri's website to see if they have a dealer near you https://www.mazuri.com/Home.asp?Products=2

    Re: ugh...

Your best bet is to locate an actual feed store. Where I get mine, that's all they do, food for dogs, cats, horses, pigs, and of course rats. When I first visited them they had one bag on hand. They said they had that bag for months, now they keep stocked up for me, I can go now and get all I want. $23/50lbs.

    Re: ugh...

the place that can order me the 20 or 25 lbs bag is from my only feed store.

I called another feed store located not too far from me in NY but the owner isnt in, I have to call back after 3.

I also looked on the mazuri site and the closest is 30 mins away, thats an hour total. Not what I'd call saving too much. Granted the gas prices have dropped a TON but still not something I'd want to travel every month just for 1 thing.

this is nuts.. another pet store just called back with info on a 50lb bag, only large bag he can get is by Sun Seed, 45 dollars + tax. My guess would be the pet stores are upping the prices and trying to rip me a new one.. but I could be wrong, who knows?

    Re: ugh...

My feed store is about 20 minutes away...I don't buy just one bag...when I go I pick up 10-12 bags. It cost a good bit but I only make the trip every 2-3months. They should be able to work with you and stock you up to cut down on the trips.

    Re: ugh...

My feed store is also about 30 minutes away. Around here everything is about 20-30 minutes away, and I don't consider it bad at all but an everyday drive. Work, food, shopping etc... unless your really strapped for gas money, it's going to be worth it. Especially when you can buy in bulk.

    Re: ugh...

Check out petfooddirect.com They sell 40 lb bags of Native Earth (rebagged Harlan) for $13 and change. Shipping is the only downside. I am in TN and with all of their dicounts and such, I end up paying about 25 per bag shipped. Not the best deal in the world, but an option if your local stores can't help you.

    Re: ugh...

Have you considered mixing the bag with dog food of the same weight. Than you will double what you have. I dont know just an option I guess, alot of rat breeders do that. But I do not recommend feeding them dog food all the time, you will end up with realy greasy rats and that is no good for your snakes. Goodluck in your search
