Housing question
Can you house two BPs in a 40 gallon tank? Would it be better if it were male/female instead of having the same sex or does that matter? I have a small BP right now, only a couple months old. Next year I want to get another one and I'm not sure if I can put them in the same tank. I dont know if its bad to put a smaller BP with one thats already a little over a year old. I already have a female BP and want to get a male Bumblebee next year.

Re: Housing question
From what I've read, I don't think you're supposed to keep more than 1 BP in the same tank, but maybe you can if it's male/female and in a larger tank like a 40 gal. I don't know for sure though.

Re: Housing question
No I would not keep them in the same tank even if they were the same size. Please please buy another cage for your next ball python! It will be better for both the animals!

Re: Housing question
You should not house multiple snakes together for many reasons
- Cannibalism. Do you really want to risk it?
- If one gets sick, they all get sick. Double vet bills. Or double death… whichever comes first
- Unwanted breeding. What happens if they breed? What if the female gets eggbound? What if she lays the eggs? Are you prepared to take care of them? And the hatchlings that will soon follow?
- Stress. They’re not cuddling in their hides. They’re dominating one another. Stress leads to a multitude of other problems. Such as not eating/ growing like they should.
When I first got my snakes, I had two in one enclosure- assured by Petco that it wasn’t a problem. They’d bond. After reading all the reasons for NOT housing them together (on this site) I immediately separated them and noticed a difference right away. They both ate more, grew faster, shed better, and seemed overall much more content.
Hope this helps.

Re: Housing question
if all you have is a 40 gallon tank and don't want to buy a second tank I would recommend getting a piece of plexiglass or a sheet of plastic and using aquarium grade silicone to hold it in place as a divider.

Its not a problem, I was just wondering if they could be housed together. I do want to breed snakes so I wouldn't mind at all if they did breed. - that was for another repliers question.
