    From feeder to pet

Bf and I went to pick up some rats and a mouse for the snakes. Looked in the rat bin and they had this guy in with all the feeders. I asked the owner of the pet store if he was really going to be a feeder and he said yes. So of course I had to take him home and make him a pet. So now I just need to find him a good name.

I have him in a 10 gallon tank for now. Not too sure about hairless rats but he's a sweetie! Looks like he has some fuzz on him, so maybe he's not a completely hairless dude. I've had pet rats before but they have always had hair. This should be fun.

If you cut the bottom part off that second picture, it looks like the top of an old man's bald head!

    Re: From feeder to pet

I 'rescued' a hairless once. He was being sold as a pet but he had such a look of total unhappiness that I just HAD to take him home.

He got along fine with the others for the longest while.
Then my pups started to vanish, the mother has proven with several other litters that she is an wonderful mother. And my former stud rat NEVER touched a baby in his nearly two years of living with nursing females.
    And he bit me.
Then I got a wonderful little dumbo boy. Had to put him in the big cage with the others since I was having a cage crisis. Then the hairless killed him...after that the mean dude made friends with my ice cubes and was no more.

Yeah...it's only the furry ones for me now >.<

    Re: From feeder to pet

I've had good hairless rats before. He's a cutie, good luck with him. I'm thinking of getting another hairless for a pet to hang out with the retired breeders.
