    # of Prey Items

What's the most you've fed one snake in one meal, number or weight and weight of snake being fed?

I thawed four 40-gram mice out to feed my two snakes. Alice weighs 774 g and Charger weighs 684 g. Charger decided he didn't want to eat (he's in blue). Alice ate his two and retreated to his hide. I left the extra mice in the room and went to make dinner for the humans in the house. When I walked past Alice's tank he was exploring, so on a hunch I hit one of the leftover mice with the hairdryer and dropped it in. He hit it immediately. So now the total for Alice is 120 g (just a tiny bit over 15% of his weight). Is that dangerous? Think I should try the last mouse or toss it out?

I have a few that get left overs too. I won't do it consistently tho. I don't believe it has any negative affects unless you're doing it weekly - then they can tend to go on long fasting periods.

    Re: # of Prey Items

I usually only feed two per week. I've only got one more meal of that size mice and I was going to upgrade to rats of larger weight. I just don't want him to regurgitate.

This is only the second meal with me for the one that refused (Charger) and I have not learned his habits. Alice has never refused or regurgitated (although one night he took about two hours to take his second one for some odd reason). Since I feed F/T, they aren't much good after tonight.

    Thanks for the input!

I hve heard you can refreeze, some have actually said that it might help picky eaters eat better

    Re: # of Prey Items

Personally I would refreeze the remaining left over mouse.

I have a garbage disposal named Wilma she is a Monster and has eaten 3 small rats in one day. I do not do this as a norm but we had a few left overs and 4 or 5 girls got 2 rats that day but I beleive that Wilma would have eaten another one if I had given it to her.

I would let your little guy settle and digest for a couple of days and before you handle him again and I wouldn't make a habit of it but he should be fine.

I've heard that too, but not too sure about it in this case. I thawed these at room temperature from about noon and fed at 5:30. It's now almost 9:00. The last one left smells pretty strong, but I suppose that's how they like 'em!

I wouldn't refreeze. It's not worth the risk.

Oh my...I put it in there and then re-read this entire post to be sure I didn't miss anything. I was having second thoughts and was going to just remove it, but he's got it halfway down My husband thinks it's too much and is worried that I hurt him. Now I'm worried.

Total weight of mice 159 g. Alice's weight 774 g...actually might be a little less because he pooped two days ago. Please someone assure me that he'll be okay I have absolutely no intention of disturbing him for 48 hours, probably even an additional 24! He's my special boy and I would be devastated if something happened to him, especially if it were my own fault

As someone told me a couple of weeks ago...the solution to leftovers is more snakes!

Let him sleep it off. He should be fine. Just make sure you keep an eye on him to see if he regurges.

he will be fine.. next time just toss out the extra, mice are cheap and the snake doesn't need the extra food... i accidentally double fed a hatchling a few weeks ago, he is doing fine..
