I have a peach faced Love Bird and need help

I got a Peach Faced love bird about a week ago and we are still in the getting settled in process.
I have had a lot of birds in my day, but never a love bird.
I am sure its a she, but would like confirmation on that, as she has no band. She was purchased in trade at a pet store.
Here are some pics of Bling

Now I would like to start hand taming her, but she still freaks when you put your hand in the cage.
    Any tips?

    Carol

Re: I have a peach faced Love Bird and need help

Lovebirds are difficult to sex accurately, but the most positive method with adult birds - other than DNA or surgical sexing, is to grasp the lovebird in the palm of your hand, restraining the head with thumb and forefinger at either side with the breast uppermost. Using the little finger, trace the breast bone down towards the birds vent and note the width of the gap between the birds pelvic bones. The male bird will have the pelvic bones very close together, whilst in the hen, the pad of your little finger will just fit between the bones.
With regards to taming, it is very difficult to tame a lovebird that hasn't been handreared or handled straight from the nest, but they can be taimed to a degree.
