Heating, thermostats, flex watt, etc ???

Well I posted a thread in the caging area, but I haven't received as many responses as this area generates. I really want to hear what people use and what people think is safe and economical.

As of now I only have one snake and no rack system. I plan to add 2-3 more snakes within the next month. We get the keys to our house on Friday and I will be building my rack system after that. I found the melamine/shelving board and the smallest pre-cut size holds four 6qt tubs.

I will be using flex watt and a thermostat that can handle 500 watts. I don't know what size or wattage I want the flex watt yet, advice for 6qt tubs?

I watched the video posted for me about thermostats and multiple shelves of heating.

I was also told in the caging area that flex watt has a problem with heating that large of an area (four 6qt tubs) equally after time. So I might be leaving the fourth tub empty....

    Questions:
For those of you that have flex watt multiple shelves or not, where do you put the temp probe? Do you put it in one of the tubs or do you lay it directly on the flex watt?

I ordered a reptile thermostat and it has a safety feature that shuts off power if the probe reads over 110 degrees. I also want to by a temperature alarm as a back up measure. Just in case the thermostat malfunctions (I've heard some horror stories).

Here's a link to it. The alarm goes off if temperatures go below or above what you have the high and low set at.

What do you think of something like that? Does anyone use one?

I'm sure I'll have more questions as we go! Give me any more advice you can think of!!! And just so you know....I'm NOT experienced with anything electrical or even making a shelf This will be interesting.
