Smile New owner and built a cage with pics

Hello....I'm in Baltimore County, MD...I just built my first snake cage a few days ago....actually 2nd...I built the first one and I didnt like it so I built another one and I think it came out rather nice...in my opinion. The cage is 36 x 16 x 16. The wood is treated and not harmful to the snake so there will be no mold or anything like that from the humidity.

The top is ventilation board and I cut out an area for the light to shine in and put plexiglass on top of it. The whole right side swings open like a regular door with hinges and latches in 3 separate places so it's impossible to open from the inside...it's almost impossible to open from the outside.

I have a lot of materials left so I am thinking of building an extension on the left or right side...kind of like a mini tank attached to it with a small opening where the snake can go when it wants to get away from every day life in it's regular cage. I built 2 hides in to the right back corner and I also have another one that I have but I took it out for a little while until I am set on how I want the inside to look permanently...but I'm happy for now.

My temp during the day stays between 78-80 (cool side) and 85-91 (warm side) and the humidity stays between 65 and 82 but it seems to be steady at 72. I think the 2 plants keep the humidity at the level it is. First try and I think it's pretty successful...what do you think?

Any changes or modifications you would make?

Today I bought an ACURITE Indoor Humidty Monitor which displays Current Temp and Humidity and the daily High/Low Temp and Humidity. Can't beat it for $8.00. The top number is Humidity and the bottom is the Temperature.

I suggest putting the extra hide on the other side form the current hides. one on each side is always a good idea to help the snake thermoregulate. I like how the hide looks.

Thats a pretty awesome setup! Let us know how the plants hold up against your snakes thrashings. =D

I'm worried that your python will wrap part of its body around the plant and cause it to fall on itself! Thats my immediate thought. It looks nice what is the floor made out of?

The hide has been in there. I'm going to build in some more eventually when I expand the tank.

I was thinking about that but it has not bothered it....it likes to crawl on the bigger one though.

It looks nice but also it looks like it is made from Pine? What did you seal the wood with? Most soft woods are so porous that within a few weeks you will have so much bacteria buildup that the cage will be unusable (and all the cleaners will just seep into the wood as well ruining it).
