Moving newborns?
So my little albino Freya gave me 9-10 pretty babies yesterday at 2am and I was just wondering if/when I can move them so I can clean out the cage. there is blood and poo everywhere so I was just wondering when you all thought I could move them to a seperate container

Re: Moving newborns?
I thought you were supposed to wait at least a few days to touch them

I moved them and everything is going ok I guess. Gaia the baby sitter mouse is taking more interest now than the mother.... she is such a good girl! I love gaia to death! I will never feed her off i don't imagine. can mice that arnt the mother nurse the babies?

Re: Moving newborns?
First I must say I gave you a misinformed answer. I thought you were talking about rats. I have to say I can't breed mice to save my life and I'm sorry. Now not sure about mice but I foster off baby rats all the time if a mom only has 2-3 pinks or pups left I'll put them in with a mom that has the same size babys and let the other mom rest and start recovering

Eventually, yes, they can produce milk for the young. I've used wet nurse rats before, and eventually, the wet nurse does produce milk for the young.

Re: Moving newborns?
ok cause Gaia sits on the babies and I didn't know if I should be worried or what.. I LOVE Gaia. she is my favorite and she always will be! she is the only mouse caring for the babies now.... Stupid freya Once these pups are grown She is getting a one way ticket to ki's cage,... I kow it sounds mean but she is a really really bad mom...

Re: Moving newborns?
All Freya wants to do is run on her wheel..... she won't even go near the babies... Gaia on the otherhand wont leave them when one crawls out of the nest she is right there to put them back. is there anyway to tell if Gaia is actually feeding them?

Re: Moving newborns?
I don't know about mice but I move around my rat babies all the time.. heck I picked up a mom giving birth and a baby dropped out. Rats are great I have stuck asf pinks in with the nursing moms and they nursed them lol.. it is funny because they are about 1/4 the size of a rat pink

You should be able to see her spread herself over the pinks with all legs extending outward and the pinks are underneith biting on her nipples.
