Question Warm side is perfect temperature, but cool side is only about 72 degrees...

Ok, here's the deal. I set up my incoming ball pythons cage (plastic tub) and my warm side is being heated by a UTH controlled by a T-stat and the temperature is always perfect. The problem is the cool side only gets to about 73 degrees max which is way too cold and I know that can cause health issues and I don't need that happening with my brand new snake. I was wondering what the best idea would be for getting that side warmer besides buying ANOTHER UTH and T-stat for that side? Or is that my only option? Or a space heater maybe?

the enclosure is in my basement where i spend most of my time...so i would have to sit in a really hot room...my 2 choices of where to keep the enclosure is my room (where i sleep) or my basement (where i always am doing whatever)-both places i wouldnt want to be really hot...

you can try this. get another UTH, connect that to a dimmer, then connect the dimmer to the thermostat. Since it'll only max out to what the thermostat is telling it to. You then dim down the heat on the cool side so it can give you the desired heat for the cool side.

If i got some flexwatt heat tape and put it on the cool side and plugged it into a dimmer and plugged that into my thermostat, would one thermostat be able to control both the UTH AND the flexwatt?

yea, you can also go to your local OSH, Home Depot or Lowe's and find some there as well. I use one for my tub for my cool side and it works really well.

I only have one T-stat. Most T-stats come with at least 3 outlets to plug in heat sources. Use one of the outlets with your uth for the hot side, set it at the desired temp right? Then with your other uth, you connect that to the dimmer switch, then connect the dimmer switch to one of the other outlets on the t-stat. Set the dimmer switch till it reaches around 80-84 degrees and then your good. OSH is Orchard Supply Hardware.
