sigh; rack tub humidity

I am having humidity issues in my 2 racks. I have melted holes into the tubs via soldering iron. Yet still.. merely having a bowl of water in each tub.. the humidity is enough to form condensation in the tubs! This is super for shed times.. but not everyday life. I guess I should just melt more holes? It IS humid in our house.. but the newspaper substrate in my tubs is not that wet.. nothing to endanger them with scale rot.. but still. Any ideas?

Try using aspen on top of the newspaper to hold some of that moisture.
Make more holes, and fill up the water bowl less.

If it's still bad, try getting a small dehumidifier for your snake room.

We're having that problem some days Jen due to this awful late summer weather. I don't much worry about it unless the bedding is actually getting damp and just make it a habit to give the tub front where the condensation gathers a bit of a wipe with some paper towel each day.

The only other thing that is helping is to keep the snake room window open during part of the day and keep a fan blowing. Getting fresh air in and the stale, hot air moving helps the tubs stay more stable in our snake room.

You can also try smaller water dishes... and make sure they are on the cool side of the tub...

Good ideas! And Jo I hear you about the weather. It is so humid sometimes that it feels like you're swimming through the air, not walking, huh?
I do like to open the door and let air in (snakes are now in what would be used by normal people as the "breakfast nook" of the kitchen, near a french door.) And yes, a fan sounds like an idea as well.. I plan on melting more holes in the tubs this weekend. I saw one person on here who had a ton of holes in their tubs and thought, huh? But now that seems like the way to go!

Sounds good too. Now, I have relatively large dishes.. about the size of a small, low casserole dish, for my large females in the 41-quart tubs. I know that smaller bowls would be better come to think of it.. I have to hit walmart!
