I think it would depend on the space you have available to house the adult.
I like the tegus, bc they are big. Very sturdy critters. Reds are nice too. I love my reds, and the B&Ws are also cool. I don't know as much about blues temperments. I have someone who wants to give me hers, but it's mean. And I'm really full up here as far as space/time.

Our Blue's are OK. The male is a bit cage aggressive but calms when he's out. He's very handlable but I have to beware that he could snap at me for no reason (other than he's always hungry!), but that doesn't happen very often. He's never gotten me, but he's gotten our 6 year old daughter 4 times (she dangles her fingers and they look like food). But he's my favorite, probably because he's full of spunk. The female has never liked being handled, she'll tolerate it but that's it. Since she's laid eggs she's actually gotten a little better, just the opposite of what's supposed to happen. When I open the enclosure she usually walks to the door, but still doesn't like being petted. She handles being taken out better, she used to thrash. As a result she gets taken out more and she should only get better.

Our big Red male still has the best personality. He handles well and has never tried to bite me (good thing!!!!). But he's a armful when he wants to do something other than what I want him to do!!!

    Re: monitor/tegu choice

I know they arent options but I would go with a Red Tegu or an Argus monitor
