What to do when your snake loses it's tail?
So, I took my corn, Chanel, out for a few minutes today and noticed some stuck shed on the tip of her tail- about a half inch was stuck. So I soaked her and rubbed it off. It seemed pretty thick like it was a few layers.
Her tail where the shed came off is noticable smaller than it should be. It looks kind of like a pen how it tapers. Also, it looks like a couple blood vessels burst. there's a spot of blood inside the very tip and also about a 1/4" up, there's kind of a band of blood inside.
I'm not sure if it's going to come off or not, and I know there's nothing I can do to stop if from doing so. I'm just wondering what, if anything, can I do if/when it does come off? Will it be an open wound? Do I need to put ointment or anything on it? Or will it come off during her next shed and be completely healed already?
I'm probably being paranoid (like Jason says ) but I want to make sure she gets the best care I can give her.

Mel..... i would keep a close eye on it. if the tail does happen to come off i would treat it like a rat bite and put some neosporin on it. of course pain free. And i would keep him/her on paper towels with an open wound. if it was to happen!

That's what I tried to tell her Tyree! LOL...and I'm not even a colubrid guy!
I think the remaining tail will be okay, doesn't sound like the constriction around the tail from the stuck shed was that advanced/severe, with a few sheds it should be fine.

i would say use polysporin you can find it right next to neosporin but since it has some type of muscle relaxer or something in it i always go with the polysporin for my reptiles and other animals

Some neosporin have painkillers in them...however it isn't known if these are safe for reptiles. So it's best to use the Neosporin without the meds.

they make a cream neosporin, but I have never seen it without the pain meds in it. Walmart, CVS has their brand of it. Cheaper.
Hope the snakes tail is ok!
I have only had my ig tail rip, I had to give him antibiotics & put neosporin on it. It healed completely, so we didn't have to break the tail!! YAHOOOO!!!
