    Re: Rat food prices

Yea those are some of the things that we have to talk about like is there a min order or monthly order requirement. And the company I am talking to is Purina Mills the good one.

It might not pan out but I have no other place to get my rat food so this is one of two options that I have and the better sounding of the two.

With me and the local store and another local Breeder that I have yet to talk to. We would go through about 20-25 50lb bags every four weeks

    Re: Rat food prices

I paid $13.70 for a 33 pound bag of Harlan Teklad 2018 a couple months ago which comes out to about $21 for 50 pounds. I think they price may have gone up since then, but they now require a $1,000 minimum order. Oh, and this is directly from the Harlan Teklad distribution center. The local feed stores in this area charge around $35 for a 50 pound bag of Mazuri.

On top of that $1000 minimum, they require you to have a loading dock to receive the shipments! How bogus... I was looking for people around me that wanted Harlan, but now I need a dock? Grr... Who wants to rent me a shipping dock?

So it cost more to feed rats and in turn more to feed snakes so why aren't prices going up?

    Re: Rat food prices

Now that I'm breeding my own rats I've been looking into buying Mazuri and I found a feed mill in my area that will bring it up from the supplier for me. I'll be paying $16.00 for 25 pounds. I think it's a decent price so I'm happy. As I am breeding more and more rats then I'll start buying the 50 pounds eventually.

    Re: Rat food prices

Is there a big difference between buying 6F mazuri and 9F?

Same as everyone else. 25 for a 6F mazuri.

    Different protein levels. 6f is 16%, 9f is 19%.
