Marbled Orb Weaver

Just caught this nice looking female (hopefully) Araneus marmoreus the other night. She wasn't too pleased, and is actually fairly aggressive I tried getting the best pictures I could but alas, they're not that great. She'll jump at the lens and then dart for her hiding area. I'm still kind of shocked she's brown. Any other individual in this species I've found were orange and yellow....but they were caught in a field full of flowers, and her on my pool Enjoy!

Woot! She's making an egg sack! Has anyone heard of them eating before making a sack?? I'm still confused.

Not sure about that species but I had a small female L. hesperus that would make egg sacks every couple of weeks and she ate as much as my other non-sack-laying? females did - I didn't think the sacks were fertile because she was so small and I had her for so long, but I got tired of taking them out and left one in so she would stop building new ones and to my surprise I had a bunch of little baby widows on my hand one day.
